Here, my hand-painted illustrations take on a life of their own, quirkier, mischievous, and a little more cuddly than my equine art. They drift toward storytelling and charm, turning simple ink and color into tiny personalities with big energy. My BeGrimed Boos float in and out of trouble, woodland creatures map out escape routes to nearby hiding places, black cats guard portals, and a hamster with his curious companion find their way into many of these tiny adventures. Every character who wanders out of my imagination adds another page of tiny adventures, story scenes, and character lore to this growing storybook universe. It is the playful heartbeat of my creative world, a place where every sketch, drawing or painting can spark a new adventure.

Welcome to The BeGrimed Boos of Tatterwick™.

Tatterwick is a wonderfully worn little place where old houses lean slightly sideways, crooked attics hide forgotten trunks, and dusty shops are crowded with curious things. Candlewicks flicker long after everyone has gone to bed, while beyond the rooftops, winding paths disappear into moonlit woods inhabited by odd little creatures.

​

And somewhere in Tatterwick, there always seems to be a place where things that have been misplaced, forgotten, or simply wandered away somehow end up.

 

The BeGrimed Boos, Born from ashes and soot, paint splatters and coffee stains, they are scorched, torched, tattered and scattered, but never careless. Flecks of glitter and threads of gold may cling to rough edges, while patches, stitches, smudges and stains become part of who they are.

 

Some are more torn and worn than others, for they have wandered farther and lingered longer. Known as the Wandering Elders, their tattered folds carry stories from places even Tatterwick has nearly forgotten.

​

Nothing here is pristine, and nothing is meant to be. Each Boo wears the remnants of its travels with pride. Every crooked patch, worn fold and mysterious mark holds a little piece of its story, a reminder of where it has wandered and the adventures it refuses to forget.

No matter how smudged, singed or unruly they become, they remain exactly what they were meant to be...

Life in Tatterwick is rarely quiet. The Boos love searching for forgotten treasures, solving little mysteries and setting off on scavenger hunts through attics, old houses, dusty shops and moonlit woods. They are forever practicing things both new and old, whether perfecting the fine art of haunting, learning a curious new skill, or piling together for a good old fashioned hayride.

 

Of course, things do not always go according to plan.

 

A peculiar button, an old key, a mismatched trinket or some other wonderfully wonky object can send the Boos tumbling into an entirely new adventure. Every so often, a misplaced little treasure may even find its way beyond

 

Tatterwick and turn up somewhere unexpected.

Among the Boos, a certain curious hamster in his bravest little sheet cloak and his ever loyal spider companion occasionally attempt to blend in.

 

Do they truly believe their disguises fool anyone? Perhaps that's part of the fun.

The BeGrimed Boos dance between whimsy and weird, sweetness and spookiness, laughter and lovable trouble. Each piece is created with cozy ghost charm and a little hand drawn mischief, because even in the dustiest corners and darkest shadows, joy has a funny way of finding somewhere to glow.

My autumn and Halloween art lives in a world where the season never clocks out. Fireflies often drift through the dark, pumpkins gather in happy little clusters, bats trace familiar arcs across the sky, and woodland paths echo with whispers of stories waiting to be told.

 

Every piece carries the perfect blend of old fashioned nostalgia and the spark of something wonderfully unexpected, filled with both new and old traditions.

 

The BeGrimed Boos often wander into this realm and float in with their distressed and tattered souls. They mingle with the leaves and lanterns as if the studio door is always open.

 

The Haunted Hats series, which began in 2004, continues to anchor this collection with its playful twists and classic haunted whimsy both as paintings and sculptures.

 

Tarot symbols and story threads weave through the work, adding layers of meaning that shimmer between intuition and imagination.

Several ideas and new projects are  always taking shape behind the scenes and a few fit sweetly into this world. It brings one of a kind mixed media pieces, collectible Boo paintings, and sculpted spirits to life, carrying forward the handmade soul of this collection while creating something new for my collectors to discover.

Many of my paintings begin with a walk.

Whenever I can, you'll find me wandering quiet meadows, woodland trails, country roads, and forgotten places with my camera in hand. I'm always looking for the little things that are so easy to pass by, a single wildflower glowing in the evening light, the intricate patterns of weathered tree bark, delicate petals covered in morning dew, mushrooms tucked beneath fallen leaves, or the tiny insects and butterflies busy among the blooms.

​

I love getting in close. To me, the smallest details often tell the biggest stories. The texture of moss, the veins of a leaf, the spirals of a fern, feathers, animal tracks, bees gathering pollen, dragonflies resting for just a moment, and birds calling from the trees all become inspiration for future artwork.

​

Just as often, I step back to take in the bigger picture, the rolling meadows, quiet forests, winding trails, dramatic clouds, and colorful sunsets that paint the sky at the end of the day.

 

Every season brings something new to discover, and every walk reminds me to slow down and notice the beauty that has been there all along.

Many of the reference photographs throughout my artwork and collections were taken during these quiet wanderings. They are little moments of the natural world that I hope will inspire you to pause, look a little closer, and perhaps discover a bit of wonder just outside your own door.
