The Boos had followed an old Tatterwick tale deep into the moonlit desert, where they were told a mysterious serpent slept inside a painted pot. When the great cobra finally rose beneath the stars, everyone became very still, except Burdock, who had somehow found himself sitting much closer than planned. One brave little Boo stepped forward and whispered something so softly that even the others could not hear, and the enormous serpent calmly lowered its head to listen. From that night on, the Boos called their friend the Snake Whisperer, although no one has ever managed to discover exactly what was whispered.
